Guardian Angels Cleveland Ohio

Complaint: In November we hired Guardian Angels Family Care to assist our 96 year old home bound aunt with cooking, cleaning, laundry, help with dressing and bathing if needed and companionship. After interviewing several companies, we decided on Guardian Angels even though they were higher in price with their competitors. The owner’s Christian ethics won us over which helped us see the company as a great fit to help assist with our aunt. The company sent numerous aids throughout the approximate two month period they were employed by us. Some only visiting once or twice. During this period the only other people besides the aids who entered the house were myself, my son and a lady friend from her church brings her Communion each week. She’s been enjoying her visits for many years. We kept cash in the house which was used for groceries, medications, home maintenance and repairs and other miscellaneous expenses. She is a very frugal woman but insists on paying cash for these types of expenses, hence the money being in the house. During the middle of January we found the cash to be missing. There was $4,000 in November. At the time it was found missing there might have been a couple of hundred dollars less since grocery shopping and prescription pick up was done during this time. After doing a thorough search of the house several times, I called our contact with Guardian Angels. She came over immediately and assured us that “they would make this right since they have insurance and are bonded””. Though this was a comforting thought

Address: we were then left in the dark until an attorney got involved and gave them a call. After another week or so

Website: we are very disappointed in how this matter has been handled by them. Also

Phone: we were told by an executive of Guardian Angels that they were unable to file an insurance claim based on an assumption with no apparent evidence that one of their aides took the money. They said it would be the same if a material item would have gone missing. This confuses me since I do not then understand the reason for a company being bonded. We had no other choice than to let them go and hire another company to help care for our aunt. The owner of the company has refused to speak to us any further regarding this matter and has even threatened to block our phone calls. A report was filed with the Euclid Police Department on 1/21/17
